Student-Centered. Questions are encouraged at any time, believing that students learn far more from the direction class veers as a result of their own interactions with the teacher and each other.
Hands-On. Technique classes have no chairs, time is spent at the tables practicing on each other. Fruitful discussion occurs as we experience muscles in our hands, and hands on our bodies. A book is given that you can study before and after the class, to cement the knowledge at your own pace. The book has over a hundred pictures, and is designed to lie flat on a massage table while you practice.
Process over Content. We are less interested in what is right and wrong. We are more interested in your discovering for yourself what works. In fact, the curriculum is adjusted each year based on new hand positions that you discover in class. Teacher’s final evaluation of you is not based on how much you know, but how much you have gained.
Relationship over Technique. While Melting Muscles has technique elements, we also encourage you to begin a safe relationship with the recipient’s hindbrain.
Demonstration. The best way for you to learn a safe relationship with your recipient, is for your teacher to demonstrate a safe relationship with you and the other students.

(Deeper) Client-Centered. Session is guided by the non-verbal communication we receive from the client’s hind-brain. The person is continuously telling us where they feel tense, how our touch is working, and when they are feeling release. It’s like “checking in” 600 times during an hour massage, us readjusting each time, drawing ever closer to the perfect pressure, perfect stroke.
Non-judgmental. Muscle guarding is not bad or wrong; spasm is not something we should “break.” The person has a very good reason for guarding. It is not necessary for us to hear their reasons, we simply notice that they are changing. Each person is the same: everyone guards, and everyone melts.
Adaptable. You can vary style to meet the client’s expectations: a Melting Muscles treatment can look like a physical therapist pushing on muscles without oil, or it can look just like a luxurious Swedish full-body massage.
